You guessed it, it’s, nope, it’s The Thirteenth Floor. A dark sci-fi murder mystery apparently overshadowed in 1999 by The Matrix which was released just 2 months earlier.</p> <p>I honestly can’t believe I missed this one. It’s good sci-fi on its own, though sadly that <em>other</em> film sits with me the entire time. Working at Napster at the time, it was a hell of a thing to see Radiohead drop a new album and introduce a dead simple “pay what you want” model. It was beautiful. The album is beautiful. Robots chasing a very human, very analog sound. “Giorgio by Moroder” is a short film for the ears. A book whose film adaptation never seems to get made, or is impossible to make. The Metaverse, katana duels, and a pizza-delivery dystopia. Perhaps my favorite sci-fi cyberpunk novel. Certainly one of the most visionary. Though I do wonder why we seem keen on making this world a reality.</p> LibraryBook
